Fellow Republicans,
I would like to personally thank each and every one of you for your efforts the last few months. Our hard work and dedication to our Party carried Senator John McCain and Governor Sarah Palin to one of the highest, if not the highest margins of victory in West Virginia, 63.38% and 10,224 votes. We also made the race for Attorney General very close by delivering 61.13% for a 7478 margin in favor of Dan Greear, a truly great candidate and leader.
We have a lot to do the next 2 years to prepare our Party and our message for the 2010 mid term elections. Party building is an ongoing and often thankless effort, but it is essential if we are to maintain offices, regain lost ground and move our beliefs in government forward. Again, I want to thank you and let you know that I appreciate all that you do!

Wood County Christian School TARS Attend Washington County Reagan Day Dinner
I would like to thank the members of the Washington County Ohio Republican Executive Committee for inviting several member of the Wood County Christian School Teenage Republicans to their annual Reagan Day dinner. It is very important to get and keep our young people involved in the election process and party politics. The dinner was a smashing success selling 236 tickets, my son reported that the room was packed with most of the ticket holders attending. The crowd enjoyed the usual chicken, mashed potato's and green beans whiled listened to local candidates, the county chair and the Ohio State auditor.
The WCCS Tars have been assisting with phone banks for several weeks now leading up to the 4 November election. Ohio is a must win for McCain/Palin campaign. Again I would like to thank our friends across the river for remembering and recognizing the time and energy that our kids have put into their effort. The entire story is linked below.

Colin Powell Meets His Match
Anyone who expected Colin Powell to endorse McCain/Palin doesn't realize the pressure and intimidation placed on some groups of people in our free country. Since his service to Bush 41, Powell has been ridiculed mercilessly by the Hollywood left and his own community with such derogatory names as "Uncle Tom", "Oreo Cookie" and others I won't repeat.
At best I had hoped he would continue to remain on the sideline as he has since he left the Secretary of State job, but the pressure was apparently too much to fall in line with the other 96.6% of Blacks. Colin Powell and other Blacks in America (I refuse to use hyphenated names) are accused by Al Sharpton and other self appointed leaders of being out of touch and not "down for the struggle" if they deviate from the accepted entitlement mentality that is demanded because of your race.
Powell was never a staunch conservative, but I thought he understood that taking wealth or money from one person and giving it to another is inherently wrong and places a limit on growth and success, yet he specifically stated that McCain didn't understand the economic problems facing our country and Obama does. General Powell proved his bravery on the battlefield, but the fear of not supporting Obama and being blamed for his defeat was too much for him to chance.

Dan Greear Visits Wood County
Greear promises change if elected
''It is wrong for the citizens to have to pay for (Attorney General Darrell McGraw's) re-election campaign,'' he said.
Greear was in Parkersburg Friday on a campaign swing that included the Parkersburg South-Parkersburg high schools football game.
A fundamental change Greear would make in the office is to change the philosophy to sue and get as much money as possible from business, he said. The change would be work with companies to ensure they follow the law, but if they don't, ''Then we'll do with that,'' Greear said.

Palin Update
As reported on WTAP and in the Parkersburg News and Sentinal this morning, Governor Sarah Palin will be stopping for a brief visit in Marietta on her way to the St. Clairsville Ohio rally tomorrow. At this time I have no additional information, but I do have a handful of tickets to the St. Clairsville rally. I obtained these in an effort to keep local folks from being forced to drive up to pick up tickets prior to the event.

Intimidation Attempted by Local Democrat Candidate for House of Delegates

I've been doing this for a number of years and this is a first. As I was driving home from dropping my son off at school around 8 am my cell phone rings and I receive information that a bunch of Democrats are out in front of our Wood County Republican Headquarters at 8th and Avery waving signs and protesting. I immediately head that way to see what is up.
Well sure enough there are about 10-12 union folks from the UPAT in their black and gold union garb all around our HQ on both sides of the street waving Poling for House of Delegate signs. A pickup truck with a large Dan Poling sign is parked across the street in the Levitt's Funeral home lot. I pulled my truck up in the middle of the parking lot with my McCain/Palin signs proudly on display, got out, walked around and snapped a few pictures. Unfortunately my batteries had died in my real camera so I had to use my cell phone so I apologize for the poor quality, but the protesters got the message that this type of thuggery will not go unchallenged.
I contacted the Parkersburg City police and advised them of the disturbance. Our windows were being blocked that showcase our candidate signs and the entrance to our parking lot was partially obstructed. Please call me at anytime if you should witness this or other behavior that is intended to intimidate or scare people from coming to our headquarters to work or get material.

I Can Hear The Bagpipes
There is no way to spin this, nor would it be appropriate.
The Wood County Democrat Executive Committee is certainly sitting pretty from many angles. The first is their finances. According to their financial statement filed with the West Virginia Secretary of States office just today shows an on hand cash balance of $6,065.41 after already paying $1000 rent for their Headquarters on Murdoch Avenue. The local Democrats have raised over $6000 in the last three months alone. I have provided a link to the report. The major contributors are Friends of Jay Rockefeller $1000, Parkersburg Marietta Construction and Trades Council AFL-CIO $500, Jay Stern President Interactivity Foundation $1295, International Union Painters and Allied Trades-IUPAT $1000, Gainer for Auditor Committee $500, and Committee to Re-elect Joe Manchin $1000.
While visiting the Wood County Courthouse today I picked up a list of the current voter registration for our County. Democrats 22,081 and Republicans 21724. As many of you know who follow these things, after several years of hard work we managed to take a 100 voter lead just over a year ago, but now we trail by 357. Many elections over the past few years have been decided by much less. Also, keep in mind that people are very likely to vote the first election after registering.

Biden Slams Sons Service, Redifines Patriotism
Beau Biden, a Delaware Army National Guard captain, is scheduled to deploy to Iraq on Oct. 3 — a day after Biden and Palin have the sole vice presidential debate.
"Sometimes I wish he didn't have such a sense of honor and duty," Biden said.
How would you like this kind of send off from good old Dad. This is from a man who received 5 deferments from military service back in the 60's. Senator Biden yesterday defined Patriotism as those who pay higher taxes. Thank goodness Beau Biden was an acorn that fell far enough from the tree to serve his country.

Day Two From the GOP Convention
As things slowly return to normal for the Gulf Coast, the GOP Convention went back into full swing. We were all enthused and motivated by the group of speakers and the various presentations during day 2 of the GOP National Convention. In addition to the individuals who were on stage and spoke to our convention last evening, there were countless Republican leaders from around the nation. Tonight promises to be another action packed session.
Due to the lack of time and computer access on my part, my entries will be brief and include more pictures than usual.

Local Delegates at the Republican National Convention
Hello from Saint Paul
The Wood County Delegation left Parkersburg on Saturday evening at 8:30 pm and arrived at the Crown Plaza hotel in Bloomington around 12:30 Sunday afternoon August 31st. The atmosphere on the bus trip was electric with the discussion of our next VP, Sarah Palin.
Many of the folks from Wood County and West Virginia are first time attendees, including myself. What I will do the next few days is update the progression of events from the GOP Convention the best I can considering the time I have available and getting to a computer, the hotel has 2. For those who aren't awaire of who locally is attending they are: Greg Smith, Tom Azinger and Barbara Smith, our alternates are Louis Rexroad, Bob Smith and Allen Ross.
The first day of the Convention was cut short as most of you know by now. The highlight of yesterdays events were the apperance of Laura Bush and Cindy McCain together on the stage. Later today as the Convention resumes, we will here speeches from Fred Thompson, Rudy Giuliani and Joe Lieberman.

Headed to the GOP Convention
Just a few updates as to what is going on in Wood County West Virginia Republican politics. On August 14th we hosted 2 "block party's" for John McCain with a total of 40+ attendees, there were 14 statewide. The Homecoming events went off as planned with all our candidates who participate in the parade receiving a warm reception. We registered over 20 people at the GOP booth, the Democrats chose not to have a booth at the Parkersburg Homecoming. As you may have seen Walt Auvil is "blogging" for the Parkersburg News as he participates in the Democrat National Convention in Denver next week. I have been asked to do the same at our Republican National Convention.
Also, the Wood County Republican Executive Committee has secured the location at 8th and Avery Streets for our 2008 GOP Headquarters. Some of you may remember that we used that location in 2000.
