I Can Hear The Bagpipes

There is no way to spin this, nor would it be appropriate.

The Wood County Democrat Executive Committee is certainly sitting pretty from many angles. The first is their finances. According to their financial statement filed with the West Virginia Secretary of States office just today shows an on hand cash balance of $6,065.41 after already paying $1000 rent for their Headquarters on Murdoch Avenue. The local Democrats have raised over $6000 in the last three months alone. I have provided a link to the report. The major contributors are Friends of Jay Rockefeller $1000, Parkersburg Marietta Construction and Trades Council AFL-CIO $500, Jay Stern President Interactivity Foundation $1295, International Union Painters and Allied Trades-IUPAT $1000, Gainer for Auditor Committee $500, and Committee to Re-elect Joe Manchin $1000.

While visiting the Wood County Courthouse today I picked up a list of the current voter registration for our County. Democrats 22,081 and Republicans 21724. As many of you know who follow these things, after several years of hard work we managed to take a 100 voter lead just over a year ago, but now we trail by 357. Many elections over the past few years have been decided by much less. Also, keep in mind that people are very likely to vote the first election after registering.

greg,
Just like you, I was a part of the team that helped to accomplish alot between 2002 and 2006. We raised and spent over 42,000 dollars in 4 years and worked very hard to close the gap and over take the voter registration. It deeply saddens me to see our party here in Wood County go so far down hill in only two years. I guess the old saying is right. It's a lot easier to tear something apart than it is to put it together.

Change comes in many forms. Some change from 4 years ago is awful. We have our work cut out for us.

Reading the Parkersburg News can be depressing! First you have the slanted local news and the Associate Press and their definitive Democrat Party leanings (I wonder if any Republicans have recently gone to Journalism School other than Sarah Palin.)

Today I opened the Editorial Page and got some 'new news' "Iraq had those non-existent weapons of mass destruction". There were two pretty good editorials from national talking heads. Then I looked at the letters page....ouch.

Where is the Republican party? Isn't anyone motivated to write letters as we used to? There are six democrat tirades--five at the national level and one against our Republican Assessor. The only political letter to the right was titled "A press-controlled state?" critical of the media.

A letter was sent to paper from the right which did not appear. It will be shortly.

It hurts to see the left so far ahead on money and voter registration, etc. There is no excuse for lack of letters to the editor dominated by the left fringe!
